About PolaScentuals
PolaScentuals, the business, began in December 2004 but it was an idea in the making years prior...
My passion for "the natural essentials" began over 30 years ago when I was making baby food from scratch for my first child and cleaning my home with the simplest of ingredients; baking soda, vinegar & lemon juice ~ which are to this day, my cleaning staples.
As I continued to research the issue of toxins in my home, I soon realized that I was plastering my body with toxic chemicals every time I washed my hair, applied make-up or used "moisturizing" lotions. And, because the skin is an organ, which excretes toxins and absorbs them as well, it became clear that I needed to find better skin care products... or make them myself!
Today, with PolaScentuals, my quest for "the natural essentials" continues. I am neither a doctor, an herbalist nor an aromatherapist—yet I do seek their wisdom and utilize the knowledge that is provided by these professionals so that my products are both safe and effective.
Being an individual who believes in environmental responsibility, I make every attempt to utilize packaging and processing methods that are kind to the earth that provides us with so many wonderful treasures. We also work hard to locate products and ingredients which are produced locally not only to support local workers but also to reduce the need for overseas shipping which is a waste of precious fuel.
A Seattle native who was in need of a less hectic life, I relocated to Wisconsin when my kids were grown to enjoy the beauty and nature that is so abundant in this region. I am currently living with my beloved and completely spoiled dog Edie who spends the majority of her day on guard against the neighborhood birds and squirrels.
My partner Matt patiently provides hours of mentoring on all things business and marketing, my cheer leader in life and business and is also the most decent human being I know. My very dear friends Val, Barb, Deb and Heather are my product testing and development team ~ they sample the products and tell me how wonderful they are with only an occasional "I don't think so".
My two grown children Ashley and Marcus live in Seattle where they prefer the rhythm of the big city although I relentlessly attempt to convert them to mid-western life!
As for me, I do the research, the formula development, the writing, the photography, the label design, the packaging, the purchasing, the production and the bookkeeping... and at the end of the day I pour myself a latte and know I have chosen the right path ~
The logo ~ I have been asked what Polar Bears have to do with "the Natural Essentials". Quite simply, the Polar Bear provides us with a picture of a fragile and diminishing environment - a reminder that life is precious, and that nature is an evolving and powerful force which we must treasure always and never take for granted ~
