Pets In Need
PolaScentuals would like to give a voice to the many animals sitting in shelters awaiting a loving family or friend and also to those lost animals looking for shelter, food and love. Please consider these pets when looking to bring a new pet into your home.
The best way to discourage puppy mills and other pet "traders" is to stop "buying" pets.

The Prayer of a Stray

Where is the love of my family,
I wonder as I huddle out here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, and chilled to the bone,
I cry out for the place I used to call home.
The sky is black and the ground white with snow,
how will I ever find my way home?
I'm hungry and tired and don't understand
what bad thing I did to be left behind
in this frightening place - I just don't understand.
I can hear others too, who cry for food,
for love and shelter;
for the home they once knew.
Curled up in a ball I lay my head down,
and watch as the snowflakes fall to the ground.
I close my eyes; my heart filled with despair,
and pray for a miracle that someone will care.
My tummy is growling for something to eat,
and the cold of this night makes it so hard to sleep.
Three moons have I seen come and go since that day,
when they left me out here and then just drove away.
My paws are so sore, my coat is soaked through;
I'm tired! I'm cold! Won't someone come soon?
But voices I hear of other cold, lonely strays
all echo the same story; of being just thrown away.
As I'm curling up tighter, nose tucked out of the cold,
I suddenly hear the crunching of snow!
Have my prayers been answered? Could it really be true?
That someone is coming? Could this mean food?
Not wasting a moment I spring from my rest,
and follow the scent of the tracks that are left.
I gather my strength and with all my might,
I cry out for help to this shadow in sight.
I carefully listen and then, oh, what a sound!
She calls, "Here Kitty, Kitty", and puts food on the ground!
Thank God, I've been rescued, oh what a relief!
Just think of it - tonight, I might actually sleep!
And then looking back,
as this loving stranger takes me in,
I am sad for the others
whose cold night does not end.
So, just one more miracle
I ask from above,
let their voices be heard
when they too cry for love
And then, if you could,
send more angels their way,
Until there's an answer
To the prayer of each stray.

This poem was written on behalf of "Lester" who was found in a cornfield on a cold December night. It is also dedicated to the many shelters and foster parents that take on the loving task of providing temporary shelter and medical care to lost and abandoned pets
Lester was successfully adopted thanks to his loving foster mom, Kelly M. of Ripon, WI.
Sadly, many thousands of animals are put to sleep each year because there are so many abandoned animals in need. Please consider these wonderful shelter pets before buying from a breeder.
